Inspection and maintenance methods for bearing rolling sound

Using a sound meter to check the size and sound quality of the rolling sound of the running bearings, even if there is slight peeling or other damage to the bearings, abnormal and irregular sounds can be distinguished by using a sound meter.


Using auditory perception to identify irregular movements is a common method. For example, using an electronic stethoscope to detect abnormal noise in a certain part is often a method used by experienced operators. If the bearings are in good continuous operation, they will emit a low whining sound. If sharp hissing, squeaking, and other irregular sounds are emitted, it often indicates that the bearing is in poor continuous rotation condition.

Sharp squeaking noise may be caused by improper lubrication. Inappropriate bearing clearance can also cause metallic noise. The dents on the concave track of the outer ring of the bearing can cause vibration and create a smooth and crisp sound. If the impact marks caused during installation also produce noise, this noise will vary with the speed of the bearing.


If there is intermittent noise, it indicates that the rolling elements may be damaged. This sound occurs when the damaged surface is rolled, and if there are pollutants inside the bearing, it often causes a hissing sound. Severe damage to the same bearing can result in irregular and loud noise


a. The cleaning of bearings can be divided into rough cleaning and fine cleaning, and metal mesh frames can be placed at the bottom of the containers used.

b. When rough washing, use a brush or other tool to remove lubricating grease or adhesive in oil. If the bearing is rotated in oil at this time, be careful not to damage the rolling surface due to foreign objects and other factors

c. During fine washing, slowly rotate the bearing in oil and carefully perform it.


The commonly used cleaning agents are neutral non aqueous diesel or kerosene, and sometimes warm alkaline solutions are also used as needed. Regardless of the type of cleaning agent used, it is important to filter regularly to maintain cleanliness.

After cleaning, immediately apply rust proof oil or grease to the bearings.


2. Inspection and judgment:

In order to determine whether the removed bearing can be reused, the bearing should focus on checking its dimensional accuracy, rotational accuracy, internal clearance, mating surfaces, raceway surfaces, retainers, and sealing rings.


The inspection results can be judged by those who are familiar with bearings or proficient in bearings.


The criteria for bearing judgment vary depending on mechanical performance, importance, and inspection cycle. If there is any damage, the bearing must not be reused and must be replaced.
